Pillar Wins Awards in Several Categories at the “Best Building of the Year in Latvia 2024” Competition
On Wednesday, 10 September, the annual awards ceremony for the country’s best building projects took place, and this year Pillar companies once again received outstanding recognition for the quality of their work.
In the category “Residential New Build”, two projects developed by Pillar Living and constructed by Pillar Contractor were jointly awarded 2nd place: the multi-apartment residential complexes Dreiliņu priedesstrong> at 1 Ēvalda Valtera Street and Dārzciema liepasstrong> at 17 Franča Trasuna Street in Riga.
Meanwhile, 1st place in the “Timber Construction” category was awarded to Preschool Educational Institution No. 7 in Salaspils at 2A Rubeņu Street, where Pillar Contractor was the main contractor. The name Pillar Contractor was also highlighted in the “Socially Significant Building” category, where the company received an award for the CBRNE and Human-Induced Disaster Rescue Training Ground it built at 10 Krustpils Street in Riga.
“Pillar has made a strong statement in the multi-apartment residential sector, significantly raising the overall standards for such projects. Last year, at the Best Building of the Year in Latvia 2023 competition, our project Mežciema mājas at 47A Sergeja Eizenšteina Street took 1st place in the ‘Residential New Build’ category. We are truly delighted to receive an award again this year – it is a professional recognition that confirms our company’s attention to detail and use of sustainable solutions,” says Roberts Meiers, Member of the Board of SIA Pillar Living.
The Pillar Dreiliņu priedes project has an A+ energy efficiency rating and comprises three buildings: one nine-storey and two four-storey houses with a total of 122 apartments. The Pillar Dārzciema liepasstrong> project consists of a single four-storey building with 49 apartments. Both developments offer two-, three- and four-room apartments with full interior finishing and floor space ranging from 43 to 86 square metres. Each apartment includes a separate utility room for convenient storage and either a balcony or a terrace. High-quality ventilation systems from a Finnish manufacturer with heat recovery functions have been installed, while rooftop solar panels supply electricity for communal needs.
As Roberts Meiers emphasises, the high recognition of these projects is due not only to the excellent work of the builders but also to the advantages these projects offer for the homeowners:
-
exceptionally low heating costs – annual consumption of 26 kWh/m²;
-
use of the best, quietest and most energy-efficient heat recovery system on the market – Swegon Casa, to which the kitchen extractor hood can also be connected;
-
windows and entrance doors with enhanced sound insulation;
-
moisture-resistant and highly durable vinyl flooring;
-
fully equipped kitchens already installed;
-
solar panels on the roofs;
-
well-designed and convenient apartment layouts.
The Best Building of the Year competition has now been held for the 27th time. It is organised by the Latvian Builders’ Association and the Latvian Association of Civil Engineers in cooperation with seventeen industry organisations, the State Construction Control Bureau, VAS Valsts nekustamie īpašumi, the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments, Riga Technical University, the Latvia University of Biosciences and Technologies, the Riga Construction College and RISEBA FAD.
